Introduction
Caroline Haythornthwaite, Barry Wellman (2002) noted that internet has become an important part of our life, but people also have some questions about the resource of internet, social interaction, and commitment to our contemporary society. That is to say, in recent year internet has already laid an important role in our daily life, people use internet everyday. They use internet to connect friends or family, to play games, to watch films and news, and finish works. Some times people can not live without internet. However, some people think some resources in internet are useless for people’s daily life and the society. This paper will bring them together that analyses the impact of internet for our contemporary culture and our contemporary society.
The necessary of internet
John A. Bargh and Katelyn Y. A. McKenna (2003) analyzed that internet is a link to bring people and technology together, which after the telegraph, telephone, radio, and television. People create technology and learn from it to get more useful information. They also said that in 2002, there are more than 600 million people worldwide had use it. Turow and Kavanaugh (2003) suggested that kids grow up with internet and their future generations will also use internet everyday and take it for granted. Guy Berger(2009)noted that today internet has become the most global medium in the history of humanity, It changed and influenced traditional distinctions between local, foreign and international news. On the other hand, internet also help people to communication, for example, people like to watch films online, it is free and convince, it become a important part of people’s daily life, especially for young people, they get a lot of fun from internet. To sum up, the reason that people choice internet to solve problem and make fun is due to the advantages of internet, the following aspects will show the positive of using internet.
However, some people think internet does not really need for people and society, sometimes internet even can lead some bad influence for people. For instance, Jeffrey Baird (2009) said that The Internet leads company to be not a real and good provider and not a health industry, it lead company will not collect useful and health information, the advertising by the Internet lead company will not target healthy program beneficiaries, compensation to the Internet lead company will not depend on whether customers decide to purchase something from the providers or supplier. Nevertheless, internet played an important role in 21st century, people use it everyday and can not live without it. Quintin Komaromy (2009) suggested that smart use of the internet provides the key to good design and fast to use technology, the internet has even taken the traditional style to a new level, providing a fully interactive online version of the paper-based book. He also said full use of the internet, distributors can become much more strategically important to their customers. That is to say people create and development internet, internet contribute to people, for example, people today can enjoy and get a lot of fun from online films, they are free and convenient. Internet also does the following thing to convenient and colorful people’s life.
Communication. Sarah A. Birnie and Peter Horvath (2002) said that there have been many comments about the impact of the internet in society, social interaction, and communication. For example, Internet already have a greater impact on society than television did in recent years, because the Internet affects many more areas of a person's life - personal, family, school, and work domains said by Surveying the Digital Future(1999). People use internet to contact friends and transfer news. Sarah A. Birnie and Peter Horvath (2002) suggested that a comprehensive examination of the traditional relationship and Internet social communication need to consider social motives and attributes. Social motives have also been linked to online communication. Some studies showed that those with low or unsatisfactory traditional social contacts use internet more frequently than others. Telecommunications weekly(2009) reported that due to range use of internet applications such as Teleconference, Pay-TV, Collaborate tasks, and Message services, these applications are based upon the mechanism of multicast communication, which allows the group member to communicate with multi-party efficiently.Communicate in internet can remove the embarrass communication of face to face when people do not know each other, although sometimes individuals are more likely to use the internet merely to fill time. For me I also us internet everyday, I use it to play games, watch films, send e-mails and find some news and resources.
Teaching online. In recently years, more and more individuals prefer to study online, it can save time and money. Schools and teachers have already set up many programs for students to study online, especially universities. Andrea Chester and Gillian Gwynne (1998) noted that teaching in cyberspace has also given us a chance to review the familiar in our educational practice, thereby using our life online to inform our face-to-face teaching. Most teachers prefer to teach online because they think it is benefit for students, they can get the same level of education by studying online, and they also can get a lot of resources online when they are studying online. The benefits of online anonymity for teaching and learning have included increased equity and higher participation rates. Sascha Mitchell (2009) suggested that the benefits of online for teaching and learning have included increased equity and higher participation rates. In my university, there are a lot of programs for me to study online, I can go to library online to read books, I can find useful imformation about my courses and I also can book or order someone to help with my study or english, it is really convenice and helpful, internet has full og my study.
